Cycling through the Land of Altena

In the Land of Altena it is wonderfully peaceful to cycle through the polders. You also drive a bit over the dike along the Bergsche Maas. Here you have a beautiful view of the rippling water and the vast surroundings. Just past Hank you cycle along the edge of Aakvlaai, a water-rich nature reserve that connects to the Biesbosch. Then you drive along the Bakkerskil, an old creek that once had a mighty current. As you drive over the Kildijk, you pass the Papsluis: a fan lock from 1815. A few hundred meters further on you pass the Werk aan de Bakkerskil fort from 1878. You drive on car-free roads to Uitwijk, where you see the old Reformed Church. You cycle back to De Speeltol along nature reserve Het Pompveld and via Babyloniënbroek.
