Tour of Gouda and Reeuwijkse Plassen

The route starts just outside Gouda. A little later you drive into the old center of Gouda, where you will encounter many characteristic monumental buildings. One of the cultural-historical highlights is the beautiful fifteenth-century town hall. The St. John's Church is also worth a visit: it originally dates from the thirteenth century. At junction 41 you have a beautiful view of the old port. Just past the picturesque Haastrecht you cycle over the dikes along the Reeuwijkse Plassen. Here you will see old wooden quays, reed collars and many birds. In the rectangular shape of the lakes you can see how the former peatlands were parceled out at the time. The peat was used, among others, by potteries and beer brewers in Gouda. Be sure to stop off at the Beijersche barn, shop & tearoom along the way for coffee, tea, cheese and regional products!
