Tour of Gouda and Reeuwijkse Plassen

The route starts just outside Gouda. A little later you will enter the old centre of Gouda, where you will encounter many characteristic monumental buildings. One of the cultural-historical highlights is the magnificent fifteenth-century town hall. The Sint-Janskerk is also worth a visit: it originally dates from the thirteenth century. At junction 41 you have a beautiful view of the old harbour. Just past the picturesque Haastrecht you cycle over the dikes along the Reeuwijkse Plassen. Here you will see old wooden quays, reed collars and many birds. In the rectangular shape of the lakes you can see how the former peat lands were divided into plots at the time. The peat was used by potteries and brewers in Gouda, among others. Be sure to stop along the way at Beijersche schuur, winkel & theeschenkerij for coffee, tea, cheese and regional products!
