Description

You start the route in the Stammenderbos, a nature reserve through which the Geleenbeek flows. Make sure you have good shoes, because the path along the stream can be damp. After a while you pass the centuries-old Kasteel Terborgh. In this former moated castle, members of the infamous De Bokkenrijders were locked up around the eighteenth century. The Mulderplas is a former swamp area where the State Mines once discharged the polluted rinsing water that was used to wash the coal. You walk up the Krekelberg, a hill that is over 100 metres high. Above Schinnen you enter the Wolfhagerbos, this poplar and willow forest is intersected by the Kakkert stream.
