Description

You start the route at Eetcafe Spech in Spaubeek. From here, you walk briskly to the Stammenderbos, a nature reserve through which the Geleenbeek flows. Make sure you wear good shoes, as the path along the stream can be wet. You cross the Geleenbeek, after which you make a climb in the Stammenderbos. Black alder and ash grow along the stream; higher up, you will see beech and oak trees. After a while, you pass the centuries-old Terborgh Castle. Around the eighteenth century, members of the notorious De Bokkenrijders were imprisoned in this former moated castle. Further on, the St. Anna Chapel from 1865 stands in Oude Kerk. You walk back via Huis Ten Dijcke. The country estate, built around 1600, lies hidden among Canadian poplars and pollard willows. This route is a beautiful combination of nature and history!
