Description

Hulst is a charming old fortified town in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. Put on your walking shoes and walk around the city walls and through the beautiful and cozy old city center.

Hulster Stadswallen
The route starts at the earthen ramparts of Hulst, which date from the time of the Eighty Years' War. Initially there were walls on the ramparts, these have been demolished. The earthen walls vary in height from 8 to 10 meters. You have a beautiful view over the canal, the strongholds and the city center.

Three city gates
Three of the original six city gates are still present in the ramparts. The Gentse Poort dates from 1720, the Double Gate is a hundred years older. The Bagijnenpoort was built in 1704. You will also pass the Stadsmolen, a flour mill from 1792. In the center is the fifteenth-century Basilica of Saint Willibrord, a few years ago it was proclaimed the most beautiful church in the Netherlands. On the Grote Markt you can see several centuries-old buildings, such as the beautiful Gothic town hall from 1534.
