The beating Heart of Drenthe

This route takes you through the beating Heart of Drenthe. You will find 5000 hectares of uninterrupted nature here! You will also pass through the picturesque Orvelte.

Orvelte Open Air Museum
The route starts at Hotel Restaurant Ruyghe Venne. A nice place for a coffee or lunch before you hop on the saddle. You soon enter the green village of Westerbork, where you can admire the fifteenth-century Stefanuskerk, among other things. If you like photography and cultural history, Orvelte will keep you busy for a while. In this nearly thousand-year-old green village there are still many authentic farms, it looks like an open-air museum.

Heart of Drenthe
For a large part of the route you drive through the vast nature of the Heart of Drenthe. Forests, heaths, whimsical streams: here you experience nature as it was meant to be. What immediately stands out: it is old-fashioned quiet here! The deeper you go into the forest, the more everyday life seems to disappear behind you. A good moment to clear your head completely. On the Hoofdstraat in Zwiggelte you can see a few beautiful eighteenth-century farms.
