The heart of Leeuwarden is easy to explore by bike. In the countryside you cycle through beautiful old Frisian terp villages.
Leeuwarden Forest
In the old city center there are many monumental buildings to see, so you can easily experience the historical atmosphere here. On the northern edge of the city you cycle through the Leeuwarder Bos, a beautiful young nature reserve that has been planted to compensate for CO2 emissions.
Terp villages
The Frisian polders are a great place to make miles. From the saddle, you can enjoy expansive views over the grasslands. You will pass through Jelsum, Cornjum and Britsum: three picturesque terp villages where you can admire centuries-old churches. Just past junction 28, you will pass the Elfstedenmonument'De Tegeltjesbrug\\\': more than 7,000 eleven-city riders are depicted on it! At the end of your route, you will pass through the water-rich polders around the De Grote Wielen nature reserve. What peace and quiet you will find here!
