Rucphense Forests
The route starts in Kruisland, a village just outside Roosendaal. The surrounding polders were drained in 1487. In 1682, Kruisland was largely destroyed by major floods. There are still a number of creeks around the village, such as the Tuimelaarskreek, which you soon pass on the right. It is wonderfully peaceful to walk in this rural area. Ideal to recharge the proverbial battery.
Saint Catherine's Valley
The first monastery of the sisters of Sint-Catharinadal was located on Holterbergse Straat (at junction 60) from 1271 onwards. After a series of floods, the sisters moved to Breda in 1295.
