A round of Kruiningen

You can take a wonderful bike ride on the eastern tip of Zuid-Beveland. You drive through vast polders, between fruit orchards and through old villages. Truly a day to clear your head. And just enjoy.

Old Mill
During the first kilometers you will loosen your muscles along the Scheldt-Rhine Canal, which opened in 1975. On the Western Scheldt you can get a breath of fresh air while watching the sometimes gigantic container ships that call at the Port of Antwerp. In Waarde you can admire the centuries-old village church, it is a beautiful thing. Just outside the village you pass De Hoed, a flour mill that was originally built in Ghent in 1550. It has been at its current location since 1991.

Drowned Land
In Kruiningen you will see the Old Mill from 1801, and you will also pass the beautiful fifteenth-century Johannes Church. Just before the end point you pass the Rattekaai: a former tidal harbour. Get off here to look out over the Drowned Land of Zuid-Beveland. This piece of land was flooded by the Sint-Felix flood of 1530, since then it has been part of the Oosterschelde.
