Description

In the Betuwe you can not only enjoy the many fruit orchards, but also a rich cultural history. Like with this route that leads you through picturesque Buren, among other things.

Lek dike
The first kilometers you drive on the Lekdijk. On the right you look out over the fruit orchards where apples, pears and cherries grow. On the left are the flower and bird-rich grasslands of the floodplains along the Lek. Occasionally you pass a beautiful old farmhouse that is just on the dike. What a beautiful bike ride here!

Glory Marienwaerdt
However small Buren may be, the former fortified town is dotted with monumental buildings, such as the fifteenth-century Sint Lambertus Church. The fortifications are still largely intact, so you can soak up some history here. From Tricht you follow the course of the Linge and you pass Heerlijkheid Mariënwaerdt. There are no less than 40 national monuments on this private estate of over 900 hectares. On the Lek you will pass Fort Everdingen, a fortress from 1847.
