Cycling along Radio Kootwijk

On the Veluwe you will find more than seemingly endless forests and vast heathlands. What about Radio Kootwijk, a unique piece of Dutch cultural history.

The Kootwijkerzand You cycle into the forests of the Veluwe. From the cycle path you can enjoy the fragrant conifers at your leisure. And suddenly the landscape opens up when you cycle onto the Kootwijkerzand: an extensive sand drift that is partly overgrown with mosses and grasses. What a wonderful place to cycle!

Radio Kootwijk You will also pass Radio Kootwijk, the transmitter station that was built in the 1920s for radiotelegraphic contact with the then Dutch East Indies. The area around the former transmitter and the associated hamlet is considered a protected village view due to its cultural-historical value. A little later you cycle into the seemingly endless forests again. What silence!
