Description

On the Veluwe you will find more than seemingly endless forests and vast heathlands. What to think of Radio Kootwijk, a unique piece of Dutch cultural history.

The Kootwijkerzand
You cycle into the woods of the Veluwe. From the cycle path you can enjoy the fragrant conifers at your leisure. And suddenly the landscape opens up when you drive onto the Kootwijkerzand: an extensive sand drift that is partly covered with mosses and grasses. How wonderful it is to cycle here!

Radio Kootwijk
You will also pass Radio Kootwijk, the transmitting station that was built in the 1920s for radio telegraphic contact with the then Dutch East Indies. The area around the former transmitter and the associated hamlet is a protected village because of its cultural-historical value. A little later you cycle back into the seemingly endless forests. What silence!
