Goes is easy to discover on foot. Get out your walking shoes for a nice walk through the cozy old town.
Fortifications Goes
Goes originated in the tenth century on the edge of a creek. Especially in the first centuries, the town grew into an important trading center. During the Eighty Years' War, a fortress was built along the city, which is still partly visible. The old center of Goes enjoys a protected cityscape anyway because of the many historic buildings. For example, from the Oostwal you have a beautiful view over the Oostsingel with its beautiful houses.
City harbor Goes
The old city harbor is also a good moment for a photo. Where many ships with merchandise moored in the past, pleasure craft are now moored at the quay. A striking building is't Soepuus, a former tidal water flour mill. Further on you can see another corn mill: the Koornbloem, it dates from 1801.
