Located on the Deurnesche Peel nature reserve and close to the former peat colony Griendtsveen, Natuurpoort De Peel offers access to a unique wetland area on the border of North Brabant and Limburg. A varied landscape of puddles, plains, bushes and sand ridges. Moreover, it is one of the richest bird areas in Western Europe and a beautiful walking area with a rich history of peat extraction.
This walking route leads via the Deurnesche Peel through Griendstveen, a former peat colony that can be read like a history book. With its old village pumps, drawbridges, dead straight peel channels and characteristic buildings, it breathes a rich history of peat cutting.
