Located on the Deurnesche Peel nature reserve and close to the former peat colonies of Helenaveen and Griendtsveen, Natuurpoort De Peel offers access to a unique swamp area on the border of North Brabant and Limburg. A varied landscape of ponds, plains, groves and sand ridges. Moreover, it is one of the richest bird areas in Western Europe and a beautiful cycling area with a rich history of peat extraction.
The Peel landscape can be read like a history book. The vast majority of the peat swamp was excavated by peat cutters and sold as 'the gold of Peel'. Traces of this are still everywhere. This is also the case in Griendtsveen, with its old village pumps, drawbridges, straight peeling canals and characteristic buildings. Now the Peel is a paradise for nature lovers with a landscape of water, heathlands and sand ridges. The wetland area attracts more than a hundred species of breeding and migratory birds.

Natuurpoort de Peel is located on the edge of the Deurnesche Peel & Mariapeel nature reserve, a unique remnant of an old vast raised bog area. Here you can walk to your heart's content. You can also enjoy cycling in the vicinity of the Natuurpoort, through Brabant forests and a quiet rural environment. The Nature Gate is a great base or break spot here. You can relax with a coffee, the soup of the day or a sandwich on the terrace or by the fireplace. The house specialties are made from street products, including the Leegvelder cheesecake.
