Hiking trail Hünenweg: along dolmens in the Osnabrücker Land and the Emsland
From the Peace City of Osnabrück, the 210 km long hiking trail leads through the idyllic river valley of the Nette. Walk past various water mills, the ruins of the Wittekindsburg and the Rulle monastery to Bramsche, the city of the cloth weavers. The hiker encounters the first dolmens in the Osnabrücker Land at the Wiemelsberg, Ankum and Hekese. The huge dolmen in the latter place is no less than 100 m long. One of the highlights along the way is the former Cistercian monastery Stift Brush, which is still as remote as when it was founded in the 13th century.
In the Emsland, the hiking route runs right through the large Hahnenmoor nature reserve. Dragonflies, wool grass and sundew can be found in this peat area. We continue walking along the river Hase and over the ridge of Hümmling. On the'Hünengräberstraße\\\' there are numerous dolmens, such as the'Königsgrab\\\'. Via the moorland of Mansenberg you reach Sögel with the unique baroque hunting lodge Clemenswerth. After the recreational area Surwolds Park, the landscape becomes wider. The typical peat landscape with its elongated peat villages determines the picture. The Hünenweg ends in Papenburg, best known for the Meyer Werft, where giant cruise ships are built.
