Weserbergland-Weg: a walking route with beautiful views
The 225 km long Weserbergland-Weg leads in 13 alternating stages from the source of the river Weser near Hann. Münden to Porta Westfalica. Along the way you will pass romantic fortresses and castles, nice historic towns, adventurous wildlife parks, mysterious peat bogs and dense primeval forests. Hiking with a wonderful view over the Weser valley from the numerous vantage points and towers along the way. It becomes nothing short of spectacular at the steep rock'Hohenstein\\\', once a sacred place of the Germans. From the 50 m high cliff, the view glides over the wide river valley.
The Weserbergland is also the land of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. In Hamelin you will undoubtedly encounter the Pied Piper in person. The lying baron von Münchhausen was born in Bodenwerder and the Sababurg is the castle of Sleeping Beauty.
Other highlights along the route are the ErlebnisWald Schönhagen, the Cistercian monastery Amelungsborn and Hämelschenburg Castle in the style of the Weser Renaissance. Time seems to have stood still in the Mecklenbruch moorland with its glittering fens and buzzing dragonflies.
