Walking through the Jammerdal

The route starts at Oelespot Restaurant. This cozy café-restaurant is located in the old bottling plant of the former Ulingheide Abbey, a monastery complex dating from 1884. From the terrace you can quickly walk into the Jammerdal: a sloping nature reserve where you will find a dry oak forest. Mountain ash and silver birch also grow there. It is wonderfully quiet to walk here, so that you can enjoy the wealth of plants at your leisure. In the Jammerdal are several former quarries where clay has been extracted for centuries for the ceramic industry in Tegelen. Humid alder forests now grow there. A steep wall for sand martins has been created in one of the quarries. In the hamlet of Egypt you can still see a few nineteenth-century houses. There are also some former clay quarries to see. Back at Oelespot Restaurant it's time for a terrace!
