Walking through the Jammerdal

The route starts at Oelespot Restaurant. This cozy café-restaurant is located in the old bottling plant of the former Ulingheide Abbey, a monastery complex from 1884. From the terrace you can quickly walk into the Jammerdal: a rolling nature reserve where you will find a dry oak forest. Rowan and silver birch also grow there. It is wonderfully quiet walking here, so that you can enjoy the wealth of plants at your leisure. In the Jammerdal there are several former quarries where clay was extracted for centuries for the ceramic industry in Tegelen. Damp alder forests now grow there. A steep wall for sand martins has been created in one of the quarries. In the hamlet of Egypte you can still see several nineteenth-century houses. There are also several former clay quarries to be seen. Back at Oelespot Restaurant it is time for a drink on the terrace!
