Description
Fancy a day of enjoying Gelderland? Then follow this route over the Veluwe and along the Veluwemeer. In addition to natural beauty, you can also enjoy cultural history in charming villages along the way.
On to Elspeet
You start this route on the edge of the Haere nature reserve. From here you cycle to the Veluwemeer, between the Veluwe and Eastern Flevoland. Enjoy the relaxing view over the water here. Along the water you set course to Nunspeet and further to Elspeet. Just outside Elspeet you will find the sheepfold where the flock of sheep that graze on the Elspeetse and Vierhoutsende Heide resides. In Elspeet you can also admire characteristic old farms and the monumental village church from the 16th century. Then you cycle across the Elspeetse Heide and through lush forests to't Harde.
Wild animals in the forest
Around Elspeet and Vierhouten you will find various forests and heathlands that connect with each other. This used to be a popular hunting area, including among members of the Royal House. That is not surprising, because all kinds of animal species are found here. From deer to wild boars, foxes and mouflons, you will find it all there.
