Cycling along the Waal to Nijmegen

During this route you cycle past sights in the city and through nature: a perfect combination. The route starts in Nijmegen and takes you along the Waal and the beautiful nature of Gelderland.

Pearl on the Waal
From Stationsstraat in Nijmegen you cycle towards the picturesque village of Bemmel. From the dike on the Waal, Nijmegen soon appears on the horizon. You cycle past the Valkhofpark onto the famous Waalkade. While cycling in the Nieuwe Marktstraat, you pass by muZIEum, the museum informs visitors about life with a visual impairment. The museum profiles itself as the experience museum about seeing and not seeing.

With the ferry
Along the Waal you cycle through a mosaic of fruit orchards and flowery grasslands. It is wonderful to travel for miles along the river here. Every now and then you see a beautiful old regional farm. The nice thing about this route is that you cross the Waal at Druten with a ferry. In Andelst you will pass the village church, whose Romanesque nave dates from the eleventh century. Past the small villages on the Waal, you cycle east again towards Nijmegen.
