Are you ready for a nice quiet walk with some cultural history? Then grab your walking shoes from the shelf and come for a walk in the outskirts of Maarssen.
Maarsseveen Lakes
It is wonderful to walk along the leafy banks of the Maarsseveense Plassen. Unlike other lakes in this region, the Maarsseveense Plassen has no centuries-old history of peat extraction. They were excavated in the late 1960s for the construction of the Overvecht district in Utrecht. From junctions 83 to 69 you occasionally have views of the Molenpolder: a beautiful low moor area that was created by peat.
New Dutch Waterline
There is also quite a bit of cultural history on your route. For example, you will pass two forts from the New Dutch Waterline. Fort De Gagel was built around 1820 and is publicly accessible. Further on is Fort aan de Klop. This fortification was built as early as 1629 as an earthen fortress to withstand Spanish attacks.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
