Cycling through beautiful Friesland

Cycling in Friesland never gets boring! This route takes you through the vast Frisian landscape of polders and lakes. You will also pass through several historical towns, such as Joure. Shortly after getting on, you will cycle past some beautiful characteristic workers' houses and a church from the beginning of the twentieth century in Scharsterbrug. Joure is a nice place to get a taste of the atmosphere. It is known as the town where Egbert Douwes started a shop in colonial goods such as coffee in 1753. You will still find the former Douwe Egberts factory there, just outside Joure. It is wonderful to cycle for miles along the banks of the Sneekermeer. After you have had a good look at the picturesque Akkrum, you will pass two beautiful polder mills. The Deelsmolen dates from 1859, De Hersteller from 1857.
