Like the other stages of the Paderborner Land Route, this section also leads along a river. Now it is the Alme, which rises in the peaceful Brilon-Alme and flows into the Lippe on the grounds of the floriade at Schloss Neuhaus. But before you reach the Almedal, you first cycle to the highest village in the Paderborner Land; Bielwäsche. You then cycle through the beautiful Aadal to the Aabach dam, located in a wonderful forest landscape. In Bleiwäsche you can enjoy distant views of the nearby Sauerland. Via Lühlingsbach you finally reach the Almedal. You follow the flow of the river via Büren to Borchen.
This area has a rich history. The castle ruins of Ringelstein above the Almedal bear witness to this, as does the baroque Jesuit church with the Jesuit college and a large number of mills in Büren. The Wewelsburg is the only Triangle Castle in Germany in a still closed building construction. With its prominent exhibitions, this castle is well worth a visit.
The cycle route continues to Borchen, passing through several characteristic villages with unmistakable charm. Near the Mallinckrodthof, an imposing half-timbered building from the 17th century, you can admire the confluence of the Altenau. The river Altenau, the source of which you were able to see during the previous stage, flows here with the Alme.
The surprising landscapes of the Paderborner Land are a true paradise for cycling enthusiasts. Here you fly effortlessly over the well-constructed cycle paths while enjoying the most beautiful views. In the cozy cities in this area you can take a well-deserved break to get acquainted with the delicious regional cuisine.
