With this walk you will discover the charm of Den Oever, a beautiful town on the east coast of Wieringen. You also walk a bit across the former Zuiderzee island.
Monumental church
You start the route with a terrace at Restaurant Basalt in the harbor of Den Oever, near the beautiful former lighthouse from 1884. Further on you walk past De Hoop, a beautiful thatched corn mill from 1675. A little later you walk through the polder. It's so nice and quiet here on Wieringen! In Oosterland you walk past the eleventh-century Michael's Church, built in Romanesque style. It is built entirely of tuff stone. Striking: the spire is made of brick!
Afsluitdijk
From 1918 to 1923, Wieringen served as a place of exile for the fled German Crown Prince Wilhelm. The story goes that a farrier from Hippolytushoef taught him how to forge. You can walk at your leisure through the polder back to Den Oever. Here you can take a look at the place where the Afsluitdijk comes ashore.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
