A wonderful hike on Wieringen

Want to get a breath of fresh air on Wieringen? Then put on your walking shoes for this beautiful trip on the north side of this former Zuiderzee island.

The route starts in Smerp. A little later you walk through the polder. It's so nice and quiet here on Wieringen! At Museum Jan Lont you can experience the Wieringer farmer's and fisherman's life before the time Wieringen was linked to North Holland. A nice trip, also because the museum is housed in an authentic Wieringer farm (the oldest on the island!).

Salty Wadden Sea
While you walk to Stroe, one of the oldest villages on Wieringen, you walk to one of the higher points on the moraine that makes up Wieringen. In good weather you can see Texel and the Kop van Noord-Holland here. In the ninth century, the island was a base for Danish Vikings for a short time. You can imagine how they were on the lookout here. Walking along the coast you can smell the salty air of the Wadden Sea, wonderful!

Do you want to do two fun activities? You can go shrimp fishing in Den Oever on the Oostkade and you can go mudflat hiking in Hippolytushoef.
