A lovely walk on Wieringen

Want to get a breath of fresh air on Wieringen? Then put on your walking shoes for this beautiful hike on the north side of this former Zuiderzee island.

How wonderfully peaceful it is here on Wieringen! At Museum Jan Lont, you can experience Wieringen's farming and fishing life from before Wieringen was connected to North Holland. It is a lovely day out, also because the museum is housed in an authentic Wieringen farmhouse (the oldest on the island!).

Salty Wadden Sea
As you walk towards Stroe, one of the oldest villages on Wieringen, you reach one of the higher points on the moraine that makes up Wieringen. On a clear day, you can see Texel and the northern tip of North Holland from here. In the ninth century, the island briefly served as a base for Danish Vikings. You can imagine how they kept watch from here. Walking along the coast, you smell the salty air of the Wadden Sea—delicious!
