What's more fun than cycling along fruit orchards in the Lower Betuwe? Taking ferries in the Lower Betuwe! Three times: once across the Lower Rhine and back and forth across the Waal. Holiday feeling at its best!

Fruit garden
From your starting point in Druten you immediately board the first ferry of the day, across the Waal. This is the Neder-Betuwe, the area between the Lower Rhine and Waal: the fruit garden of the Netherlands. Beautiful in the spring with the blossoms, or in the late summer when the fruit is growing in the orchards. It is always wonderful to cycle in this quiet and sparsely populated area with its beautiful natural beauty and villages full of old monumental buildings.

Wijenburg
Then you hop back and forth across the Lower Rhine to Rhenen. Back in the Lower Betuwe you will discover the Wijenburg, once an important castle in the Duchy of Gelre. Until lord of the castle Otto van Wijhe came into conflict with the duke in 1492. The castle was saved from demolition at the beginning of the 20th century and fortunately restored to its former glory.
