Ferry route Neder-Betuwe: along the Waal and the Lower Rhine

What is more fun than cycling along orchards in the Neder-Betuwe? Taking ferries in the Neder-Betuwe! Three times: once across the Nederrijn and back and forth across the Waal. Holiday feeling at its best!

Fruit garden
From your starting point in Druten you immediately get on the first ferry of the day, across the Waal. This is the Neder-Betuwe, the area between the Nederrijn and Waal: the fruit garden of the Netherlands. Beautiful in the spring with the blossom, or in the (late) summer when the fruit grows in the orchards. It is always wonderful to cycle in this quiet and sparsely populated area with its beautiful natural beauty and villages full of old monumental buildings.

Wijenburg
Then you hop back and forth over the Nederrijn to Rhenen. Back in the Neder-Betuwe you discover the Wijenburg, once an important castle in the Duchy of Gelre. Until castle lord Otto van Wijhe came into conflict with the duke in 1492. The castle was saved from demolition at the beginning of the 20th century and happily restored to its former glory.
