Cycling along the banks of the IJmeer

A beautiful route along the coast of the IJmeer to Waterland, a polder-rich region where historic towns such as Monnickendam are located. Birdwatchers will get their money's worth here. Along the shore of the IJmeer you cycle towards Amsterdam. While you are on your bike, you see the city coming closer from the polder, a unique experience! You pass the idyllic Durgerdam. You then cycle through an open peat meadow landscape with wide views. A little later you cycle through the old town of Monnickendam where you almost stumble over the monumental buildings: you see beautiful old buildings with characteristic facades.
