Description

The current Wieringermeerpolder also consisted of land ten centuries ago. Due to several major storms and associated floods, it subsequently became part of the Zuiderzee for centuries. In 1930, the current polder area was drained and developed for agriculture. You drive through a vast landscape of fields and meadows. You will also pass through the towns of Kreileroord and Wieringerwerf. At junction 50 you drive onto Wieringen. This former island was connected to North Holland in 1924. At the Wieringer Ice Cream and Dairy Farm you can enjoy a fresh ice cream at your leisure. You can get off at junction 32 to take a look at the centuries-old Wierdijk. The Leemans pumping station was used to reclaim the Wieringermeer, further on you drive through the Robbenoordbos and the Dijkgatbos.
