Description
Around Uitgeest you can make a wonderful bike ride through the vast polders. A route full of peace and views over the water. You will also pass some historical sights.
Old mills
At the Uitgeestermeer you cycle onto the Zwaansmeerpad. From this nice cycle path you have a beautiful view over the rippling water. You can also see the Tweede Broeker, a beautiful thatched polder mill from 1631. Further on you pass industrial heritage park De Hoop.
Fort aan den Ham
The cycle path along the Krommeniepolder and the Markervaart is a wonderful way to cycle for miles. You will enjoy the wide views and the monumental buildings. For example, you will see De Woudaap, a polder mill dating from 1651. In Krommeniedijk you can admire the Reformed Church from 1755, a picture! Then you will pass three forts from the Defence Line of Amsterdam, including Fort aan den Ham from 1903. This fort houses a museum that is regularly open.
