Tour of Giethoorn and Weerribben

You'll first cycle through the fortified town of Steenwijk, a charming old town. Soon you'll enter the Weerribben, one of the Netherlands' most beautiful nature reserves. What a wonderful area! However pristine and natural the surroundings may appear, every square meter was created by human hands. On Hoogeweg, you'll still see a peat cutter's cottage from the peat-digger era. In the middle of Dwarsgracht, you can admire one of the thickest and oldest ash trees in the Netherlands, planted around 1800. From the cycle path, you'll soon have a beautiful view of the Beulakerwijde. A little later, you'll be amazed by Giethoorn: in the Venice of the North, you'll be happy to put on your brakes!
