Description

This route runs along dreamy rivers and former railway lines from Hanau to Bad Hersfeld. A route without steep slopes, which allows even pleasure cyclists to reach the enchanting mountain area. Here you can relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the nature parks “Vogelsberg” and “Rhön”. Views, beech forests, the floodplains of Nidder, castle and Fulda, as well as the imposing Kuppenrhön promise a special experience full of treasures, such as the Celts ben Glauberg.

There is much to see in Lauterbach; you can visit the castle town of Schlitz or the baroque Fulda. In the spa and festival town of Bad Hersfeld, the Bad Hersfeld Festival is held annually in the world's largest Romanesque church ruins. The Point Alpha memorial, one of four US observation bases in Germany at the Hessian border, is only less than 4 km away from the track and is well worth a visit.

In addition to nature and sights, there are also recreational facilities that are located on the route of the BahnRadweg Hessen. The carefully arranged baths in Bad Hersfeld, Bad Orb, Herb Stein and Bad Salzschlirf ensure a relaxing bath and sauna day.

Good train connections and bicycle-buses during the summer months make this route a comfortable journey with many possibilities. In the south, the journey from Frankfurt to Hanau on the Mainradweg is a good alternative to the train. In the north, the cycle paths Weser, Fulda and Werra offer an ideal option for touring cyclists.
