Cycling through the Veluwe

From Hierden you can cycle straight onto the Veluwe. That means miles of cycling on cycle paths that meander through vast forests and heathlands. What more could you want?

Gortelse Mountain
You start your bike ride through the vast nature of the Veluwe. Deciduous and coniferous forests, heathlands, shifting dunes: how beautiful it is here! In this setting, cycling is of course no effort at all. Enjoying it is no problem either. From the Gortelse Berg just above Gortel, you have a beautiful view of the surrounding heath and forests.

Smallest town
There is also a lot of cultural history to experience on the Veluwe. For example in Elspeet, a beautiful village where you can see De Hoop, a corn mill from 1894. Further on you drive past Landgoed Staverden. It was built centuries ago as the beginning of a city. That plan did not go ahead, so that Staverden is now officially the smallest town with city rights in the Benelux. The central country house originally dates from the thirteenth century, the current version was built in 1905.
