Cycling through the Veluwe

From Hierden you can easily cycle into the Veluwe. This involves riding for miles on cycle paths that wind through vast forests and heathlands. What else do you want?

Gortelse Berg
You start your cycling tour through the vast nature of the Veluwe. Deciduous and coniferous forests, heathlands, drifting dunes: how beautiful it is here! Of course, cycling in this setting will not cost you any effort. Don't enjoy it either. From the Gortelse Berg just above Gortel you have a beautiful view of the surrounding heathland and forests.

Smallest city
There is also a lot of cultural history to experience on the Veluwe. Such as in Elspeet, a beautiful village where you can see De Hoop, a flour mill from 1894. Further on you drive past Staverden Estate. It was built centuries ago as the beginning of a city. That plan did not go ahead, so Staverden is now officially the smallest town with city rights in the Benelux. The central manor originally dates from the thirteenth century, the current version was built in 1905.
