Tour of water-rich Holland

This route takes you from the cozy Café Op de Hoek in Kudelstaart through water-rich peat areas in the vicinity of Uithoorn. You cycle through quiet nature reserves and past beautiful sights with a long history. You will also get to know various small towns in this area such as Nieuwveen, Uithoorn and Mijdrecht. The Nieuwkoopse plassen are part of a nature reserve of 1400 hectares that was created in the 16th century by peat extraction. Along the way you will pass the Fort bij Kudelstaart, a fort that was built between 1905 and 1906 as part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. The route also leads past the Fort bij Uithoorn, another fort that is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. It was built in 1911.
