Description
Elspeet is beautifully situated between the green forests and heaths of the Veluwe. This route takes you through the woods just outside Elspeet and along the Elspeetse Heide. In this quiet area you often hear nothing but the sound of birdsong. If you want to relax, you are in the right place in this area.
Restaurant't Edelhert
You start your walk north of Elspeet. From here you walk to the center of the village. You can go to the Restaurant't Edelhert for a cup of coffee before you set off, but you can of course also settle down here at the end of your walk for a nice lunch, dinner or a drink. You're probably ready for that after all that walking.
Heaths and forests on the Veluwe
From here you can walk into the woods of the Veluwe. You will pass windmill De Hoop, a flour mill that was built in 1894. A little further on you will pass the Sheepfold of Elspeet. These stables form the night quarters of a flock of sheep. Then you walk along the edge of the Elspeetse Heide to the Elspeterbos. Enjoy the green natural beauty here and walk back to the starting point of the route.
The Elspeet Heath
The heaths north of Elspeet are the remnants of a gigantic heathland that used to extend in this area. You can still find the special rice grain moss here today and you can also encounter the Elspeet sheep herd. The sheep of that herd maintain the heath area in a natural way by grazing.
