Description

The medieval Noorder IJ and Zeedijken form an important connection between Assendelft, Westzaan and Zaandam. Since the construction of the North Sea Canal (1872), the seawater has long since disappeared. The route with a length of more than 16 kilometers follows as much as possible the historic sea dikes that now meander idly between the polders. From the high dikes, the view of the low country is magnificent, with the port activities of Amsterdam in the distance. You can start the route at Zaandam station or the Vuurlinie bus stop, Beverwijk. Bus 59 forms a fixed connection between these two points. Consult the bus timetable before departure via the website 9292.nl.
