You drive a bit along the Defensiekanaal that lies here on the border of Brabant and Limburg. The canal was part of the Peel-Raamstelling, a Dutch defense line that was constructed in 1939. The position, which was weakly occupied for tactical reasons, fell after a short but heavy battle on May 10, 1940, the day of the German invasion.
