Lazy summer route: Renesse and Burgh-Haamstede

From Renesse you can of course cycle straight to the coast. That's what we come for! Then you will discover the nice village of Haamstede with the castle of the same name. This national monument from the thirteenth century was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1525, after which the castle was rebuilt in the sixteenth century. Nowadays it is in the hands of the Association of Natural Monuments. Almost unnoticed, you then cycle further to Burgh, which has grown attached to Haamstede. Then you set course for the Oosterschelde. A little later you will discover the village of Ellemeet, which was founded a few hundred meters further south in the twelfth century. Due to flooding, the villagers settled further north on higher ground. What a varied route!
