Discover the largest lake in the Netherlands

With this beautiful watery route you will quickly set course for the Langeraarsche Plassen, which you will cycle right through on a narrow dike. This area of low moor lakes was created in the sixteenth century by peat extraction. Along the water you see many fishermen who occasionally pull a bream or pike out of the water. In the northern part you can still see some swamp forests, otherwise it is an open area where many birds feel at home. Further on you drive around the Westereinderplassen, or the Poel as the Aalsmeers call it. This area has also been excavated for peat, with a thousand hectares it is the largest lake in the Netherlands. You also make a nice loop towards Hillegom.
