Zutphen is excellent to explore on foot. Put on your walking shoes and experience the special atmosphere in this beautiful former Hanseatic town.
Historic Zutphen Zutphen has one of the best preserved historic city centers in the Netherlands. More than enough reason to take a walk around here. The route takes you through the old center, which is a protected cityscape because of the many medieval, especially fourteenth-century houses. For example, you will pass the Broederenkerk, a monastery church from 1307. In the Broederenkerkstraat you will see some beautiful monuments, what a wonderful historic street!
Tower City Because of the many towers, Zutphen is also called the Tower City. On the Groenmarkt you will see, for example, the Wijnhuistoren, a belfry from 1642. Further on you will pass the fourteenth-century Berkelpoort, which was part of the city wall. A little later you will walk past the St. Walburgis Church, the oldest part of which dates from the eleventh century! The last part of the route runs along the beautiful IJsseloever.
