The Schoorl Dunes and Alkmaar

A century ago, this was one big sandbox; now you'll see open drifting dunes, wet plains, dense forests, and heathlands. In June and July, thousands of pine orchids bloom, forming a white carpet. A magnificent sight! Stop in Bergen aan Zee to enjoy the beach and then cycle on to Alkmaar. The historic city center boasts no fewer than 399 national monuments. Then you'll cycle back into the beautiful city of Bergen, where you can admire the work of the Bergen School at the Kranenburgh Museum.
