The Loosdrechtse Plassen and the Vecht are beautiful, they already knew that centuries ago. It is not surprising that you will find beautiful old country houses here. Near the city of Utrecht, this varied route also takes you past a few forts. This region is so rich in history!

Estate
From the outskirts of Utrecht you first cycle via Groenekan and Nieuwe Wetering to the nineteenth-century Persijn estate, where a beautiful monumental country house adorns the area. Straight through the Loosdrechtse Plassen you continue to another beautiful historic spot: Weerestein, a country estate whose main building dates from 1705. Weerestein is in good company along the beautifully meandering river Vecht: you will be amazed by all those beautiful country houses !

Forts
The route leads you successively past Fort Tienhoven and Fort de Gagel, both part of the New Dutch Waterline. Fort de Gagel is being developed into a gateway to the Noorderpark that you have just cycled through, including an information center.
