The White Veen and the Buurserbeek

At the village of Buurse you can enjoy beautiful walks. Discover the Witte Veen, the winding Buurserbeek with its authentic farms and of course Buurse itself. A wonderful day out. Just outside the hamlet of Den Braam you set off. Just before the German border you walk through the Witte Veen, this heath and forest area used to be a popular border crossing for smugglers. If you cross the Buurserbeek you will see the beautiful Saxon farms of Den Braam looming again, hidden between the trees. The route is divided into two loops, with your starting point as the intersection. Take a seat for a pancake at Hooge Esch Buurse: they say you can enjoy the best pancakes in the Netherlands here! You walk right along the Buurserbeek and then walk back via Buurse, at the highest place in the wide area: about 40 meters above NAP.
