This route takes you from Noordwijkerhout along the flower bulb fields that this region is so famous for. You will also walk along the edge of the Amsterdam Waterleidingduinen and through other beautiful green areas. That is pure enjoyment of natural beauty!
The Heart of the Bulb Region
The starting point of this route is in Noordwijkerhout. In the area around Noordwijkerhout you will find the largest area of colorful bulb fields in the entire region and that is why the place is also called the'Heart of the Bulb Region\\\'. In Noordwijkerhout you can, among other things, take a look at Het Witte Kerkje, a historic church in the center of Noordwijkerhout. Then you walk into the countryside of Noordwijkerhout. Here you can enjoy one flower bulb field after another with beautifully colorful flowers. You will also walk along the Oosterduinse lake. The lake was created by excavations of the former Oosterduinen in the'50s and'60s. The sand that was excavated was used by a lime sand brick factory in the area.
Sancta Maria Estate
Then you walk via De Zilk back to Noordwijkerhout. You walk along the estate Sancta Maria. This estate is full of monumental trees and you can enjoy impressive views.
The Zilk
De Zilk is a small village that is completely dedicated to bulb cultivation, and in particular hyacinth cultivation. Traditionally, the large bulb growers had their business in the'Kleine Zilk\\\' and the'Grote Zilk\\\' was used as a residential area for the workers who were involved in bulb cultivation. In April, you will find all kinds of beautiful works of art along the roads that are made with hyacinth flowers, a special sight to see. You will also pass the petting zoo de Dierenhoeve.
