Orvelte Open Air Museum
You start near Aalden. Via Meppen you drive to Witteveen, a reclamation village that was created in 1926 as a job creation project. It is the youngest village in Drenthe, but the old workers' houses are more than worth a closer look. You will find more history in Orvelte. There are still many authentic farms in this almost thousand-year-old village, it is one large open-air museum. So definitely get off.

Drenthe forests
A little later you can enjoy something tasty at Pannenkoekenrestaurant De Strohoed. You continue cycling through Boswachterij Schoonloo, which is part of a vast forest area with dense forests and wet stream valleys. Schoonloo is located on the Rolderrug, an elevation in the landscape that reaches its highest point here, namely 22 meters above sea level. Do you feel it in your calves? You can also cycle between the trees in Boswachterij Odoorn. What a beautiful nature and culture route!
