Immediately afterward, you'll pass the Airborne Monument Ginkelse Heide. In September 1944, around 2,000 Allied paratroopers landed on Ginkelse Heide in an attempt to capture the bridges near Arnhem. The airborne landing was part of Operation Market Garden, famous from the film "A Bridge Too Far." You'll cycle to Arnhem via the Warnsborn Estate on the Veluwezoom. The estate was first mentioned in the 15th century. During WWII, the manor house was destroyed by fire but was subsequently rebuilt. The Netherlands Open Air Museum is a worthwhile place to take a break. Be sure to stop at Bloem Arnhem! A little later, you'll pass the Sonsbeek Visitor Center. Your return journey will take you via Doorwerth Castle.
