Your route starts at Boscafe de Nachtegaal. Today you'll take a lovely walk along the Curfs pit in the De Dellen nature reserve – the hillside forest between Meerssen and the village of Berg en Terblijt. The deciduous forest is characterized by its many elevation changes. You'll walk past the Curfs quarry, a former marl quarry. Because of the pit's formation, the sun is intensely hot, while the shady slopes are cool and moist: a wonderfully varied landscape, which is why it's home to many unique plants and animals. The Limburg Landscape Foundation manages it and has made parts of it accessible to the public. Dutch goats keep the area open. You'll find a 30-meter-high staircase, a viewpoint offering a beautiful view of the quarry's 50-meter-high walls – a truly unique natural environment: magnificent!
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
