Slangenburg estate
You drive a bit through the Slangenburg Estate, which consists of a beautiful mix of forests and cultivated lands. In spring the blooming rhododendrons are a feast for the eyes. The avenue system is unique to the Netherlands because of its scale and authenticity.
Ruurlo Castle
Ruurlo Castle is a country estate dating from 1326. It is now a museum where you can admire paintings by Carel Willink. Get off at De Heikamp for a well-deserved pancake, because De Heikamp is the Dutch Pancake Baking Champion! Just after you pass the Wittebrinksemolen from 1889, you drive along the Kruisbergse Bossen to Doetinchem. Little is left of the historic city center due to a bombing by the Allies in 1945. They thought they would hit the German city of Isselburg.
