The best Pancakes Route Heikamp Ruurlo region Hengelo Zelhem

This route takes you through the Green Heart of the Achterhoek, as the residents of Zelhem like to call their region. A wonderfully quiet route through an old cultural landscape of ash trees, streams and characteristic farms.

Wittebrinksemolen
The route starts at TOP Zelhem. On the Kruisbergseweg you come close to junction 91 along L71, a location on the Liberation Route. Outside the built-up area you drive along the edge of the Kruisbergse Bossen, a nature reserve located on 10,000-year-old river dunes. The Romans set up a camp in these rolling forests at the beginning of the common era. A little further on you pass the Wittebrinksemolen, a flour mill from 1889.

Hedge maze
It is wonderful to travel miles in the Achterhoek. Just below Ruurlo you cycle in the forest past De Heikamp. Time for a stopover with pancakes, because De Heikamp is the Dutch Pancake Baking Champion! Further into the forest you will pass the largest hedge maze in the world. This maze was built in 1890 by the owners of Ruurlo Castle. Do you dare to enter the maze?
