Description

The forests in the east of Flevoland are among the oldest in this young province, which was founded in the last century. In the Reve-Abbertbos, the wealth of special flowers and plants betrays a natural history that goes back much further.

Reve Abbertbos
Today you go out in the Reve-Abbertbos. The Flevopolder may not be that old yet, but in this forest you will find traces of a distant past. In prehistoric times there was an extensive coniferous forest here and the river IJssel also contributed to the formation of the landscape. The soil here is very varied, thanks to deposits from that river.

Special plants
You will find many special plants such as Ragwort, but also birch fungi, for example. All kinds of animals come here, such as the scallop butterfly and various woodpeckers. You also walk a bit through the polder, in this wide landscape of canals and meadows you can let your thoughts run free. Think about what it looked like not even a century ago: the turbulent Zuiderzee was still here!
