Enjoy a breath of fresh air in South Beveland

Fancy a day out in Zeeland? Then cycle this route through the expansive polders of Zuid-Beveland. You'll enjoy beautiful views of Lake Veerse Meer. And the tranquility, especially since there are hardly any villages along the way!

Middle plates
You cross De Piet, a tributary of the Veerse Meer lake. On your right, you look out over the vast, expansive polder, and to the left of the road, you'll see the woods of the De Piet nature reserve. Further on, you'll see Middelplaten, a few uninhabited islands in the Veerse Meer lake. Well, uninhabited, of course, but they're home to many breeding birds. And a herd of Haflinger ponies. Bring your binoculars to spot the islanders!

Never Thought
In the Heerenpolder, you'll pass De Weel, a former tidal channel that was enclosed by the dikes in 1649. Further on, you'll pass two beautiful corn mills. First, you'll see the Nooit Gedacht (Never Thought) from 1872. A little later, you'll pass the Vijf Gebroeders (Five Brothers), built in 1851.
