Enjoying views in Low Holland

Just above Amsterdam lies the beautiful National Landscape of Low Holland. A vast polder area where it is wonderfully quiet cycling. You will also find historic places, such as Monnickendam.

The Twiske
You drive your legs loose in the Twiske. This area originally consisted of peat meadows along the river Twiske. Peat was mined here on a small scale for centuries. In the thirties of the twentieth century, people began to reclaim the area. Because the reclaimed land was not suitable for agriculture, the Twiske has been set up as a nature and recreation area. Here you have beautiful views over the Stootersplas and the rough marshlands.

Historic Monnickendam
In the polders of the National Landscape of Low Holland it is wonderful to make miles. You pass through Monnickendam. In the city center you stumble, so to speak, over the monumental buildings with characteristic facades. A wonderful place to get off and enjoy the unique historical atmosphere at your leisure. Further on you cycle along the Ilperveld, a vast brackish peat meadow area with countless ditches and reed beds. The route ends at Twiske Haven.
