Description
In Northwest Brabant you will not find forests, but a landscape of creeks, waterways and vast polders. You also pass through Willemstad, the former fortress where you seem to take a leap back in time.
Blue Lock
You will soon become acquainted with the Northwest Brabant polder: a vast area of fertile marine clay. The influence of the sea can also be seen in the creeks that you encounter in this region. It is wonderful to travel for miles in this vast landscape. At junction 42 you pass Blauwe Sluis, a lock complex from 1822, the lock master's house dates from 1835.
Picturesque Willemstad
From the harbor at Willemstad you have a beautiful view of the water and the former fortress. In the old center you will have little trouble soaking up the unique history of Willemstad. You will see many beautiful old buildings there. Such as the Mauritshuis from 1623, the former country house of Prince Maurits. You will also pass Fort Bovensluis from 1862.
